And when a beautiful tenacious reporter becomes the next target, Zeke has no choice but to stay close to her, until he can find the evil spirit and cross it over.

Guest Post--Taryn Kincaid Talking About Drinks,Her Latest Release, FROST, and Valentine's Giveaway Swag!

Over the past 18 months or so since I entered the publishing world, I've been lucky enough to meet some amazing writers.  Taryn Kincaid is one of them.  She's got a hot new installment in her 1Night Stand paranormal series by the name of FROST, and it all takes place in a Sleepy Hollow any woman with a pulse would kill to explore. If you like paranormal as much as I do, do yourself a favor and pick up FROST, THUNDER and LIGHTNING today :D

And now... Welcome, Taryn!

Valentine’s Day Fire & Ice

The ice, of course, are the gorgeous, diamond HOT and sparkly rocks you’ve always dreamed of having. Diamonds. Rubies. Fire opals. Rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces.  Name  your poison.

In FROST, my latest 1Night Stand release from Decadent Publishing, the heroine, sexy succubus Dagney Night, has a thing for Ice Wine, a sweet desert wine, made from grapes that are frosted on the vine. Not exactly a macho drink for a fire-breathing hero like Max Raines, a fire-sex demon.  On the other hand, he’d do just about anything to prevent turning Dagney to ashes when he touches her.

If your sweetie is not quite getting your hints,  try firing him up with these two  Fire & Ice cocktails, positively made for Valentine’s Day.

Cocktail 1: The Ice Goddess

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 oz. Vodka
  • 4 oz. Champagne or other sparkling wine
  • A splash of pomegranate juice or scoop of pomegranate sorbet. (Or try a scoop of Haagen-Dazs blackberry cabernet.)

Directions:

  • Pour vodka in champagne flute, add champagne and top off with a scoop of sorbet. Add a rock candy sugar stick for an “ice-look” garnish that may help him get the hint.

Cocktail 2: The Fire Demon

Ingredients

  • 3 oz vodka
  • 1 oz pomegranate juice
  • 3 Maraschino cherries (Okay, I realize it sounds kinda like a Cosmopolitan. Make it three chocolate-covered cherries then. Or three strawberries. Three chocolate-covered strawberries. Be creative!)

Preparation:

  • Pour the vodka and juice into a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Shake vigorously.
  • Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  • Skewer 3 pieces of fruit (or chocolate-covered fruit) on a cocktail pick for garnish.

BLURB:

Dagney Night, a sought-after succubus, is no stranger to blazing hot sex. But as Valentine’s Day approaches, she longs for something more. When oddly erotic paintings arrive for display at her art gallery, arousing everyone who views them, she wonders about the mysterious artist who created the works.

Maxwell Raines, a fire-sex demon, lives a life of solitude and seclusion behind the walls of his compound at Sleepy Hollow, channeling his lustful impulses into his art—until his muse deserts him and his temperature rises past the danger point. He needs sex. Now.

When Madame Evangeline arranges a torrid Valentine’s 1Night Stand for them, will the flames of their encounter be too hot to handle?

EXCERPT:

Dagney followed her sister’s glance, and her heart flipped like a gymnast unable to nail a vault. Darkness swathed the gallery with the exception of the lights above or below each of the paintings. The large man emerging from the shadows held her rapt. Waves of pure, unadulterated lust smacked her with such force she didn’t even see Lily and Campbell leave. The blast of raw desire crumpled her to the floor. Her gaze remained riveted on the tall hunk of ferocious male stalking toward her, radiating undiluted carnality. He set something carefully on the floor and grasped her by the elbows, his touch surprisingly gentle when he lifted her to her feet.

“I’m Maxwell Raines.”

Yeah. No kidding. Who else could a guy so hot, so studly, possibly be?

She told herself not to swoon. Ordered herself not to swoon. But, Goddess, that rumbling voice. More potent than a train barreling over the tracks. And he smelled so good. Sinfully masculine. A bit of musk, a bite of pine, an essence of dark, smoky nights. Sexy scents. Reminiscent of tangled satin sheets that had been given a good work-out.

Her legs turned to rubber, and she doubted they’d support her on their own. She’d be mortified if he’d have to scrape her puddled body up again. But he hadn’t yet relaxed his grip. Could she bullshit her way through the meeting without collapsing? “You’re late,” she said.

“I’m never late.”

“Well, the party’s over, Mr. Raines.” She waved a hand around the empty room.

“Depends on your perspective.”

“You’re big on perspective, are you?”

“I’m a painter.” A brief shrug accompanied his blunt words. “Obvious connection.”

“Right. But as you can see, everyone’s left.”

“You haven’t.” He gazed down at her, a black brow flaring. “And you’re what I’m here for.”

Taryn Kincaid lives in beautiful Bora Bora. Or wishes she did. When she's not parasailing up and down the Hudson River, taking care of her aging pet walrus, or volunteering at the local animal shelter [oh, HELL, no], she loves to arrange her voodoo doll-pin collection and practice chanting. Taryn is dedicated to eradicating the Kardashians and Honey Boo-Book from the face of the earth, along with The Bieb and sparkly vampires. At this moment, she is busy adjusting the tin foil to throw the CIA (Culinary Institute of America) off her trail. She hangs around a lot on Facebook and Twitter with her trillions of fans and pops in at Goodreads from time to time. You can catch her on her website, http://tarynkincaid.com, and her blog, http://dreamvoyagers.blogspot.com where she lives for comments!  Website | Twitter | Facebook | Goodreads | Amazon

SAVAGE ANGEL Releases Today—This Calls For An Excerpt!

Book 2 of The Earth Angels, SAVAGE ANGEL, is out today from Carina Press!  Only two weeks ago the beginning of The Earth Angels series was kicked off with NOBODY’S ANGEL, a tale of a true superhero complete with a mask, secret fortress, an evil villain and a woman strong enough keep up with his every move.  With super-powered beings, there just HAD to be a superhero in the mix.  But as I was outlining this entire series, I thought there also had to be…

A soldier.

Sara Savitch is the descendant of the Seraphim, heaven’s soldiers with wings of fire and also known as the Burning Ones. As a bodyguard and head of her family’s private security company, she’s as deadly as they come.  But when it comes to the personal, one-on-one socialization—or God forbid, interacting with a man on a feminine level—she’s more hopeless than I was when I tried to speak French while in Paris (it wasn’t pretty, trust me on this).  Dr. Gideon Mandeville is the man who’s got the prescription to cure what ails her, but he does have a tendency to make her angry.  And like the Hulk, you wouldn’t like Sara when she’s angry…

Excerpt:
The fury was so great, so massive, she couldn’t breathe properly. It was almost alive, this vast and immeasurable rage, a surging rush of heat from a volcanic place so deep inside, she never knew it existed. And with it came the jagged well of pain, a cancerous thing that had no name as it infected every hidden place inside her. The kindness she’d shown Noah during his recovery had been for Gideon’s sake, and this sordid innuendo was the thanks she got? She’d treasured the stolen moments of mind-melting pleasure with Gideon, kept the memory of them so close to her heart that she’d told no one about it. But there was nothing left for her to treasure now, not even the remembered pleasure of being in his arms. How could there be, she thought as her vision blurred into a dangerous heat-waving red, when he’d turned out to be an absolute bastard?
The bastard in question pulled at his collar as if he, too, felt hot. “As long as I’ve made myself understood—”
“Get out, or die where you stand.” Sara kept her eyes lowered. Not out of defeat, but out of genuine fear of what she might do. The fire inside her was dangerously close to the surface, and she had to grip the cool edge of her glass desk to keep herself in place.
Feel nothing. Damn it, don’t feel anything!
Oh God, the desire to fry him where he stood was terrifying.
She heard him move. “I won’t bother you again.”
Thank heaven. When she heard the closing click of the door, she looked to the potted decorative bamboo on the edge of her desk, bright green and thriving. A second later the leaves browned and curled in on themselves while the stalks withered. The next second, it exploded into bright, yellow-white flames. On automatic pilot, she let go of the desk’s edge and knocked the small fireball onto the fireproof stone flooring before it could damage any neighboring electronic hardware. Then with an economy of motion she dragged an ever-present fire extinguisher out from a cabinet, dousing the flames before the overhead sprinkler system could go off and let everyone know she’d had a spectacular loss of emotional control.
Feel nothing. Feel nothing. Feel nothing, damn it.
Exhausted, Sara set the extinguisher aside before falling into her chair, shaking with the stress of getting her emotions under control while the stench of charred plant life poisoned the air. And not for the life of her would she look at her desk and the melted glass where her hands had gripped.
                                              ***
SAVAGE ANGEL dives into the deep end of the story arc encompassing the entirety of The Earth Angels series.  From this point on, things are about as serious as a heart attack in the world of the 2st-century Nephilim, and it's going to take everything they've got to pull out a win.  And, because SAVAGE ANGEL ignites such an intense storyline, I chose to set aside every other project in the latter part of 2012 so that I could complete the series.  Why?  Because I'm a reader, just as well as a writer.  And if there's one thing that makes me want to scream (albeit in a good way...'cause sometimes a good primal scream feels freaking AWESOME) is a cliffhanger at the end of a book.  There's no way I'd leave any reader hanging for long. ;)

Question: Are you okay with cliffhangers in books?  What literary cliffhanger worked you into a lather to find out what happened next?

Woohooooo!  The first annual SFR Galaxy Awards have been announced, and HOW THE GLITCH SAVED CHRISTMAS made it in! *spazzes*

About a month ago I’d heard of several book bloggers getting together and making an annual awards event for sci-fi romance.  But I wasn’t sure if GLITCH would be eligible, how I should enter, IF this was something I had to enter myself… so in the end I thought I’d just observe it for this year and see if I might be able to have something ready for next year.

Out of the blue, I received this mind-blowing email yesterday from the great Heather Massey, multi-published author and blogger of The Galaxy Express:

NOBODY'S ANGEL Is 1 Day Old! Let's Celebrate With An Excerpt!

Woo, the first book in The Earth Angels series, NOBODY’S ANGEL, is one day old today!  Oh, they do grow so fast, don’t they? *wipes proud tear*  To celebrate this momentous occasion, I’m posting an excerpt—enjoy!

EXCERPT:

He shrugged, a movement she could feel far more than see. “A geist doesn’t have the mental capacity to focus on one person unless it’s emotionally bound to them, like a relative. Or a lover.” He caught her chin and tilted it up as if to receive a kiss, and her lips parted in a response she couldn’t help. “Has anyone in your life died recently?”

“Yes.” Her heart didn’t seem to know whether to stop or start, so in the end it fluttered uselessly. “Dave Beamer.”

“This particular geist possessed Beamer and killed him, just like it possessed that man here at Fisherman’s Wharf and made him pull off that murder-suicide which mirrored the KPOW attack.”

Her mind spun in an effort to grasp what he was saying. “Are you sure it’s the same…um…geist?”

“There’s only one geist in this city now, and this one’s unmistakable. As soon as I can corner it, I’ll pass it on to the next life as easily as I passed on your friend Beamer.”

She couldn’t help it. Her jaw unhinged. “Wow, you can do that?”

He waved this away. “The geist we’re dealing with now is so old, its death would have occurred awhile ago. Months, maybe even years ago. Are you sure you can’t think of anyone close to you who passed away?”

“No. There’s no one.”

“Then its obsession with you is a mystery I don’t have time to solve. I have to get this geist crossed over before it kills you, or before…”

She waited a beat. “Before what?”

Before he could answer, a flashlight beam bounced in their direction. As if he was part of the night itself, he moved to shield her from it with his black-cloaked frame. The press of his length was as hard as the wall at her back, and without warning Kendall imagined she could feel every muscle-padded contour and raw-edged bone in his body. A spurt of something like alarm sizzled through her when it occurred to her just how big this man was. The shroud of night had managed to hide his linebacker frame, but there was no way to overlook how her breasts flattened against the lower part of his rib cage, nor could it mask the sudden awareness of his hips and lower region now plastered against her stomach. Could he feel the scorching heat their bodies generated, or was that just her overstimulated imagination? Her thoughts whirled off in a thousand different directions, each one on a path that was completely inappropriate for their circumstances. Like how it would be to try to fit her smaller stature into his embrace. Or if she would have to stand on her tiptoes to reach his mouth with her own. Or whether or not it would be more exciting for him to leave his mask on or take it off if he took her to his bed.

An appalled breath hissed out of Kendall, and she shifted furtively away from the intoxicating press of his body. Her motor sure was running hot lately, she chastised herself, shocked by her lusty thoughts. First Zeke got her all steamed up with his bedroom eyes and hands made for caressing a woman’s body, and now she was revved-up for the so-called Guardian Angel. Since when had she pulled on her any-man-will-do hot pants? It had to be the danger, she decided, trying to ignore the fever flushing her body. Danger was an aphrodisiac, but as of now, she was immune. The one thing she had to focus on was making sure she stayed out of the hands of the geist, and not pushing herself into the hands of a man who had a mask fetish.

Okay, now to chat a smidge about NOBODY’S ANGEL…

I’ve been looking forward to this release so much!  It touches on something I’ve loved since my brother and I tied towels around our necks and pretended that when we jumped off the couch, we weren’t bouncing…then flailing…then crashing.  No. We were flying, because we were superheroes.

Of the four super-powered characters starring in The Earth Angels, only the hero in NOBODY’S ANGEL, Zeke Reece, has chosen to don a mask and keep his city’s streets safe from otherworldly harm.  Corny, I know, but oh man, do I love a good angsty superhero, a guy who doesn’t showboat while saving the day—or in this case, the night.  He doesn’t do it for applause.  Or shoe endorsements.  Or to get all the hot chicks.

He does it because a hero can’t help but be anything else.

Better still, a superhero just has to have a super-villain, right?  Of course, right! And the one lurking in the shadows is quite possibly the creepiest thing I’ve ever dreamed up.  Seriously, y’all.  I wigged myself out. What’s more, this super-villain would love to make Kendall Glynn his latest victim, but she’s not exactly the easy out that she first appears to be.  Despite the terror Kendall experiences on sooooo many levels, she finds a way to empower herself, in ways that Zeke needs in order to eliminate this bizarre threat once and for all.  Don’t believe me?  Well, it comes as a surprise to Zeke too.  But even though he’s the descendant of an angel of death, not even he knows all the answers, and he comes to realize that there are times when even a hero needs some help.

So, welcome to the world, Zeke and Kendall!  You two get to kick off The Earth Angels series in NOBODY’S ANGEL! Better still, to the very sharp-eyed reader, there might even be a teensy peek at the ultimate bad guy that ties the entire series together.  Heh. >:)

Pfffft To New Year's Resolutions (and YAY to Muppet-Flails)!

*Raises glass*

Happy New Year, and a huge, warm welcome to 2013!  It’s official—out with the old calendar and in with the new, and with that change comes the solemn tradition of sitting down and making resolutions for the next 365 days.

Pfffffft, I say.  Pfffffft.

TRUEFAX: I don’t do resolutions.  Why?  I BLAME MY PARENTS. Actually, I applaud them for it. =D  The great thing about my mom and dad is that they raised all of us with the kooky idea to reach for what you want every damn day.  If you don’t like something, change it.  Got problems with your size, whether you feel you’re underweight or overweight?  That can be managed at any time.  Same thing with bad habits, like smoking or chewing your nails.  Hate your job or the people you deal with on a daily basis?  Life is too short to be miserable, so find something/someone better.  Don’t wait for New Year’s.  January 1st doesn’t have any special magic. The magic of change is there all 365 days, so get out there and find it.  Live life like every day is New Year’s!

That being said, I really am looking forward to this year.  2013 marks the first year I’ll have four books published by Carina Press--holy cats!  Here’s the rundown... *buckles in*

January 21:  NOBODY’S ANGEL (The Earth Angels series, book 1)

February 4: SAVAGE ANGEL (The Earth Angels series, book 2)

May: WOUNDED ANGEL (The Earth Angels series, book 3)

July: UGLY DUCKLINGS FINISH FIRST (Bitterthorn, Texas series, book 1)

2013 marks another first for me.  When SAVAGE ANGEL releases, it’ll be my first full-length novel (55K words).  WOUNDED ANGEL and UGLY DUCKLINGS FINISH FIRST are also full-length, so for the first time ever, the novel projects outweigh the novella projects.  Just the thought of finally achieving this goal makes me so excited I have to stop myself from spontaneously muppet-flailing.

(Okay, maybe one little muppet-flail slipped out, heh.  It happens.)

And the coolest thing about all of this?  I didn’t have to wait until New Year’s to make this happen.  Thanks Mom and Dad, for teaching me to live every day like it’s the beginning of a New Year.  MWAH! :D

Happy New Year, y'all! <3
